HIMSS honored Dr. Betty Regan as the second-ever recipient of the HIMSS Founder Award at the 2025 HIMSS Global Health Conference and Exhibition.
The HIMSS Founder Award acknowledges a lifetime of contributions that exemplify the HIMSS mission and vision through longstanding impact through advocacy; partnership with the HIMSS Government Relations team; and dedication to serving their community.
Dr. Regan has been a HIMSS member since 2008 and is one of the longest-tenured HIMSS Chapter Advocates, representing the South Carolina Chapter of HIMSS. Dr. Regan’s passion is driven by her deeply rooted personal connection from coordinating her own loved one’s care. Her advocacy revolves around the desire to transform the way our healthcare systems coordinate and deliver care for the future.
Dr. Regan hosts an annual South Carolina State Health IT Day. She has secured several governor's proclamations declaring State Health IT Day for South Carolina, which draws attention to critical health IT legislation and investments. She helps recruit other health associations within South Carolina to join her advocacy efforts and trains them to speak with elected officials on behalf of HIMSS policy priorities. Dr. Regan continues to advocate federally and across the Carolinas, specifically for improved care coordination, health information exchange, informatics training and maternal health.
Dr. Regan has also been at the forefront for her South Carolina community, serving as current Department Chair and Professor of Health Information Technology at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Regan also mentors students and young professional HIMSS members on health IT career pathways and professional development opportunities.
HIMSS thanks Dr. Regan for her volunteer service on advancing our vision and mission and for embodying the true spirit of being a changemaker.
At HIMSS, our vision is to realize the full health potential of every human, everywhere. Be part of the community that’s transforming the global health ecosystem with courage, curiosity and determination.
